Effect of reaction conditions on the deactivation by coke of a NiAl2O4 spinel derived catalyst in the steam reforming of bio-oil

Naiara Garcia-Gomez et al.

Summary: The study investigates the deactivation mechanism of a NiAl2O4 spinel derived catalyst in steam reforming of bio-oil, revealing the roles of Ni and alumina sites in this mechanism. It shows that under specific reaction conditions, high initial hydrogen yield can be achieved, but increasing temperature may lead to coke formation and rapid catalyst deactivation.

The effects of support morphology on the performance of Pt/CeO2 catalysts for the low temperature steam reforming of ethanol

Marios Kourtelesis et al.

Summary: A study was conducted on Pt/CeO2 catalysts with different support morphologies for low temperature ethanol steam reforming, revealing that support morphology influences certain reaction routes, while the reaction scheme remains the same regardless of the support. At 573K, Pt/CeO2- PPT exhibited rapid deactivation, while Pt/CeO2- NR remained rather stable. XPS surface analysis showed significant Pt reduction on CeO2 nanorods at 573K, leading to the reduction of Ce4+ into Ce3+.

Steam reforming of sugars: Roles of hydroxyl group and carbonyl group in coke formation

Xianglin Li et al.

Summary: This study investigated the steam reforming of glucose, fructose and sorbitol and found that the different functionalities of sugars play a crucial role in coke formation during the reaction. The carbonyl functionality was identified as the main factor causing serious coking behavior, leading to different properties of the coke generated from different sugars.

Hydrogen production by ethanol steam reforming over M-Ni/sepiolite (M = La, Mg or Ca) catalysts

Mingqiang Chen et al.

Summary: Ethanol steam reforming (ESR) is a promising technology for hydrogen production, but efficient Ni-based catalysts are still a challenge. In this study, M-Ni/ Sepiolite catalysts were synthesized and characterized, showing that La, Mg, and Ca promoters enhance Ni-0 active sites. The Ca-Ni/SEP catalyst exhibited high carbon conversion and hydrogen yield due to small Ni particle size and strong metal-support interaction.

Boosting hydrogen production from steam reforming of ethanol on nickel by lanthanum doped ceria

Zhourong Xiao et al.

Summary: Doping La into Ni-CeO2 can promote oxygen vacancy generation and facilitate water dissociation, which leads to complete ethanol conversion and stable hydrogen production. In the test over 3000 minutes, Ni-CeLa0.20 catalyst showed only 0.48 mg(c)/g(cat) h of coke deposition at 600 degrees C under the GHSV of 55920 mL/g(cat).h.

Ru-Ni bimetallic catalysts for steam reforming of xylene: effects of active metals and calcination temperature of the support

Jianglong Pu et al.

Summary: A series of Ru and Ni supported catalysts were prepared and evaluated in the steam reforming of xylenes. The bimetallic 2Ru -> 15Ni catalyst showed superior activity and stability compared to the monometallic catalysts, attributed to the synergic effect of Ni and Ru, with the least coke deposition due to high conversion performance and less coke precursor formation on the catalyst surface.
