Evaluation of the matrix crack number in carbon fiber reinforced plastics using linear and nonlinear acousto-ultrasonic detections

Rong Wang et al.

Summary: This study evaluated the number of matrix cracks in carbon fiber reinforced plastics using linear and nonlinear acousto-ultrasonic detections. The results showed that matrix cracks increased with applied load, as confirmed by acoustic emission detection. Additionally, the study discussed the effects of cycle number and center frequency on ultrasonic sensitivities.

Novel method for in situ damage monitoring during ultrasonic fatigue testing by the advanced acoustic emission technique

M. Seleznev et al.

Summary: Ultrasonic fatigue testing is an effective method for characterising high cycle fatigue properties of structural materials; however, limitations in existing measuring techniques make it difficult to understand the initiation and progression of fatigue damage. The development of the acoustic emission method in this study provides a new way to monitor the fatigue process, distinguish between different fatigue crack initiations, and track the development of fatigue damage.

Summary: This paper introduces a new method using PAUT with FMC to measure acoustic properties and evaluate material degradation. Experimental results show that this method is more accurate than the conventional CUT technique, making it suitable for assessing material degradation.
