Sustainable, superhydrophobic membranes based on bacterial cellulose for gravity-driven oil/water separation

Feng-ping Wang et al.

Summary: Plant cellulose needle-leaf bleached kraft pulp (NBKP) was added to bacterial cellulose (BC) to create a superhydrophobic/superoleophilic membrane for oil/water separation, exhibiting excellent separation efficiency, recyclability, and durability. The membrane remained durably hydrophobic after multiple cycles and is expected to be highly energy-efficient.
