Oral genistein-loaded phytosomes with enhanced hepatic uptake, residence and improved therapeutic efficacy against hepatocellular carcinoma

Ibrahim A. Komeil et al.

Summary: This study aimed to improve the solubility of Genistein, protect it from metabolism, and increase its accumulation in hepatic cells using phytosomes. Results showed that GP and GPL effectively accumulated Gen aglycone in hepatic cells, increased intracellular accumulation of Gen in its complex form in HepG2 cells, and exhibited enhanced in vivo anti-tumor effects in an HCC mouse model. Genphytosomes represent a promising approach for liver cancer treatment.

Genistein loaded in self-assembled bovine serum albumin nanovehicles and their effects on mouse mammary adenocarcinoma cells

Joana B. Ferrado et al.

Summary: The research investigates the use of bovine serum albumin nanovehicles to improve the bioavailability and antitumor activity of the flavonoid genistein in breast cancer cells. Results show that genistein binds to the nanovehicles forming inclusion complexes via a fluorescence quenching mechanism, leading to a significant decrease in cell viability and cytotoxic effects through apoptosis. This study demonstrates the potential of using nanovehicles for incorporating flavonoids in pharmaceutical and nutraceutical formulations.
