Machine-Specific Estimation of Milling Energy Consumption in Detailed Design

Till Boettjer et al.

Summary: Manufacturing is a major contributor to global greenhouse gas emissions and efforts are needed to reduce energy consumption in production processes. This paper proposes a methodology for machine-specific energy estimation in milling processes using an adjusted UPLCI model, which was validated through experimental measurements and found to significantly reduce estimation errors.

Prediction models for energy consumption and surface quality in stainless steel milling

Shuo Yu et al.

Summary: The study found that in stainless steel milling, surface hardness is the most significant parameter for surface roughness, while feed per tooth is the most important parameter for energy consumption. Machine specific energy consumption increases gradually with the increase of tool wear and machined surface hardness.
