Modelling and physical analysis of the high-temperature rheological behavior of a metallic glass

Y. T. Cheng et al.

Summary: The high-temperature rheological behavior of a Zr48Cu34Ag8Al8Pd2 metallic glass was explored through strain rate jump experiments, showing a strong dependence on temperature and strain rate. The plastic deformation behavior and apparent viscosity can be interpreted within the framework of the free volume model. Stress overshoot is a characteristic feature, determined by the time of change from non-equilibrium to equilibrium defect concentrations, highlighting the influence of physical aging and stress relaxation on the high-temperature deformation process of metallic glasses.

Revealing the structural heterogeneity of metallic glass: Mechanical and nanoindentation

K. Tao et al.

Summary: Microstructural heterogeneity in metallic glasses plays a crucial role in influencing their mechanical and physical properties. Researchers have found that severe plastic deformation can enhance the spatial structural heterogeneity and reduce the energy barrier for shear transformation zones (STZs) activation. The study suggests that decreasing barriers and increasing nucleation sites of STZs during physical aging to rejuvenation may improve the plasticity in metallic glasses.

Dynamic mechanical relaxation and thermal creep of high-entropy La30Ce30Ni10Al20Co10 bulk metallic glass

LangTing Zhang et al.

Summary: Dynamic mechanical relaxation is a fundamental tool for understanding the mechanical and physical properties of viscoelastic materials like glasses. The high-entropy bulk metallic glass exhibits a distinct beta-relaxation feature. Anelastic strain is contributed by the stochastic activation of shear transformation zones (STZs), and interactions between STZs induce viscous-plastic strain under certain conditions.
