Laboratory-based flight performance of the fall armyworm, Spodoptera frugiperda

Ge Shi-shuai et al.

Summary: The fall armyworm arrived in China in late 2018 and has since spread across eastern Asia. Research shows that the flight performance of the fall armyworm is stronger at 20-25 degrees Celsius and 60-90% relative humidity, but flight parameters gradually decrease over five consecutive nights. This study provides baseline information for predicting changes in the geographical distribution, movement patterns, and invasion trajectories of the fall armyworm.

Expansion of targetable sites for the ribonucleoprotein-based CRISPR/Cas9 system in the silkworm Bombyx mori

Yun-long Zou et al.

Summary: The study investigated the use of T7 promoter to modify sgRNAs structure for efficient mutagenesis in silkworm. Results showed that sgRNAs with 5' GG mismatches can still induce mutations in vivo, with one sgRNA even outperforming conventional sgRNAs with perfectly matched 5' GG residues. The mutations generated by sgRNAs with 5' GG mismatches are also heritable, allowing for the successful generation of null mutants in the silkworm after one generation.
