Ruthenium (II) Catalyzed C(sp2)-H Bond Alkenylation of 2-Arylbenzo[d]oxazole and 2-Arylbenzo[d]thiazole with Unactivated Olefins

Bhavin Pipaliya et al.

Summary: Functionalization of bio-relevant heterocycles 2-arylbenzo[d]oxazole and 2-arylbenzo[d]thiazole has been achieved through Ru(II)-catalyzed alkenylation with unactivated olefins leading to selective formation of the mono-alkenylated products. This approach offers high yields and a broad substrate scope with respect to the coupling partners.

Ruthenium(III) complexes with imidazole ligands that modulate the aggregation of the amyloid-β peptide via hydrophobic interactions

Gideon K. Yawson et al.

Summary: Alzheimer's disease is characterized by extracellular protein deposits containing the peptide amyloid-beta. Metallotherapeutics show promise in targeting soluble A beta to prevent aggregation and cytotoxicity. Studies have shown that thiazole-based derivatives and other complexes with hydrogen-bonding functional groups can effectively prevent A beta aggregation.

Utilization of Guanidine-Based Ancillary Ligands in Arene-Ruthenium Complexes for Selective Cytotoxicity

Jit Karmakar et al.

Summary: Water-soluble half-sandwich arene-ruthenium complexes have been synthesized and shown to exhibit strong DNA-binding capabilities, enhanced cellular uptake, and improved antitumor activity, with the C-1 complex demonstrating the most significant activity against the PC3 cancer cell line. Including guanidine-based ligands in these complexes proved effective in selectively targeting cancer cells and facilitating convenient tracing in cells due to their emissive properties.

Importance of Hydrogen Bonding: Structure-Activity Relationships of Ruthenium(III) Complexes with Pyridine-Based Ligands for Alzheimer's Disease Therapy

Brendan J. Wall et al.

Summary: The study prepared 11 ruthenium complexes containing pyridine-based ligands, where the functional groups on the coordinated pyridine ligands were varied to determine structure-activity relationships. The complexes with terminal primary amine groups were found to have the greatest impact on modulating the aggregation of A beta and diminishing its cytotoxicity, highlighting the importance of specific intermolecular interactions.
