A Deep-UV Nonlinear Optical Borosulfate with Incommensurate Modulations

Yanqiang Li et al.

Summary: The borosulfate LiRb4[B(SO4)4] exhibits potential as a new class of deep-UV nonlinear optical material, undergoing successive first-order phase transitions with incommensurate structural modulations. The unique properties of NLO responses, phase transitions, and incommensurate modulations in LiRb4[B(SO4)4] are closely related to the super-tetrahedral units with B-O-S bonding, offering new possibilities for understanding physics and chemistry in aperiodic materials.

Hierarchical molecular design of high-performance infrared nonlinear Ag2HgI4 material by defect engineering strategy

C. Yang et al.

Summary: Mid-far infrared nonlinear optical (NLO) materials have attracted increasing scientific and technological interest due to their wide applications. Through hierarchical molecular design strategy, a promising NLO material Ag2HgI4 was synthesized by a simple solution method, showing strong second harmonic generation (SHG) response and wide transparency range. Theoretical calculations provided insights on nonlinearity enhancement and broadening transmittance, attributing to reduced phonon frequency and increased nonbonding electronic states on top valence band.

Cyanurates consisting of intrinsic planar π-conjugated 6-membered rings: An emerging source of optical functional materials

Xianghe Meng et al.

Summary: Cyanurates, with planar pi-conjugated anionic groups, exhibit strong optical properties suitable for birefringent and nonlinear optical applications. They possess high linear anisotropic polarizability and microscopic second-order-generation susceptibility, along with wide band gaps and high transparency across various wavelengths. Optimizing structure and engineering design can enhance the probability of acentric structures, guiding the future exploration of functional materials.

Centrosymmetric or Noncentrosymmetric? Transition Metals Talking in K2TGe3S8(T = Co, Fe)

Bingheng Ji et al.

Summary: Two new quaternary sulfides K2TGe3S8 (T=Co, Fe) were synthesized using high-temperature solid-state and flux growth methods. The crystal growth process and properties were investigated, showing a structural shift from centrosymmetric to noncentrosymmetric due to differences in [TS4] (T=Co or Fe) tetrahedra. Optical bandgaps, magnetic properties, and divalent nature of transition metals in K2TGe3S8 (T=Co, Fe) were also studied.
