N-Heterocyclic Carbene-Stabilized Gold Nanoparticles: Mono-Versus Multidentate Ligands

Neda Arabzadeh Nosratabad et al.

Summary: In this study, we found that N-heterocyclic carbenes (NHCs) can rapidly coordinate onto colloidal gold nanoparticles (AuNPs), with multidentate NHC polymer coating showing the highest affinity to AuNPs and exhibiting long-term colloidal stability and better resistance to competition from reducing molecules. These findings provide additional insights into the interaction and coordination of NHC molecules with Au surfaces.

Metal carbonyl clusters of groups 8-10: synthesis and catalysis

Cristiana Cesari et al.

Summary: In the past three decades, significant progress has been made in the chemistry of metal carbonyl clusters, with advancements in synthetic methods leading to higher-nuclearity clusters. Research into the electronic structure of metal carbonyl clusters has provided a better understanding and the potential for using molecular chemistry tools to probe their properties. Metal carbonyl clusters have emerged as stable and effective catalysts for reductive electrocatalysis reactions, particularly due to their delocalized bonding and electron-withdrawing CO ligands.

Oxidative additions of alkynyl/vinyl iodides to gold and gold-catalyzed vinylation reactions triggered by the MeDalphos ligand

Jessica Rodriguez et al.

Summary: The hemilabile Ad(2)P(o-C6H4)NMe2 ligand facilitates fast, quantitative, and irreversible oxidative addition of alkynyl and vinyl iodides to gold, while maintaining stereochemistry. This reaction can be used for hetero-vinylation reactions, producing various functionalized heterocycles with high chemoselectivity.

Hydrogen bonding to metals as a probe for an inverted ligand field

Alberto Perez-Bitrian et al.

Summary: The study found strong hydrogen bonding interactions in Pt(ii) compounds but not in Au(iii) compounds. The reason for this difference was identified through theoretical analysis to be the lower energy level of the filled d(z)(2) orbital in Au(iii), leading to ligand-field inversion.
