Evaluation of deep eutectic solvents in the extraction of β-caryophyllene from New Zealand Manuka leaves (Leptospermum scoparium)

Noor Alsaud et al.

Summary: Leptospermum scoparium (Manuka), a small indigenous shrub, contains bioactive terpenes such as beta-caryophyllene. This study demonstrates the potential of deep eutectic solvents (DESs) for efficient extraction of beta-caryophyllene from Manuka leaves. Menthol: Lactic acid DES showed higher extractability and stability, providing a good reusability of the potential DES for β-caryophyllene extraction.

Enhanced extraction performance of iridoids, phenolic acids from Eucommia ulmoides leaves by tailor-made ternary deep eutectic solvent

Lian Yu et al.

Summary: An efficient and environmentally friendly extraction process using integrated microwave-assisted ternary deep eutectic solvent extraction (TDES-MAE) was proposed for simultaneous extraction of iridoids and phenolic acids from Eucommia ulmoides Oliver leaves. Through optimization of the TDES solvent preparation and extraction conditions, the extraction efficiency was significantly increased, making it an economically productive method for extracting beneficial products from plants.
