Absorption kinetics of nanocellulose foams: Effect of ionic strength and surface charge

Laila Hossain et al.

Summary: The absorption capacity and kinetics of nanocellulose foams are controlled by the surface charge of the fibers, affecting swelling and network structure. The absorption process includes three stages: wicking, transition, and fiber swelling. Tuning the surface charge can modulate the absorption kinetics of nanocellulose foam.

Highly compressible, heat-insulating and self-extinguishing cellulose nanofiber/aramid nanofiber nanocomposite foams

Jiaoyang Li et al.

Summary: This study developed a highly compressible and self-extinguishing multifunctional nanocomposite foam with an anisotropic porous 3D structure through a green aqueous freezedrying method. By incorporating aramid nanofiber into the framework of cellulose nanofiber, the multilevel honeycomb structure of the nanocomposite foam was formed, improving compression cycle properties and reducing total heat release and thermal conductivity. The aramid nanofiber significantly enhanced the flame retardancy of the composite foam.

PEI-functionized cellulose foam for the visual recognition and removal of Cr(VI)

Shengli Zhang et al.

Summary: The novel PEI-functionized cellulose foam (PEI-CF) showed efficient removal of Cr(VI) from aqueous solution, good regeneration performance, and reversible fluorescence on-off-on phenomenon under UV light. It achieved visual recognition of Cr(VI) in a wide pH range and low concentration with good selectivity to coexisting ions. PEI-CF demonstrated great potential for emergency monitoring and Cr(VI) removal in environmental water.
