Simulation Studies of Fault Events in 66 kV Superconducting Cable

Takato Masuda et al.

Summary: Experimental and numerical simulations were conducted to study fault events in superconducting cables, showing that temperature and pressure measurements during fault conditions were in good agreement with calculated values, with no LN2 gasification or cryostat blowout occurring. For ground faults, simulations indicated that the cable cryostat may be penetrated by arc energy, leading to LN2 blowout and potential damage to surrounding apparatus.
