Psychophysiological Reactions to Persuasive Messages Deploying Persuasion Principles

Hanne A. A. Spelt et al.

Summary: Measuring physiological reactions to persuasive messages can enhance our understanding of the psychological processes of persuasion. This study investigated the relationship between four persuasion principles and people's susceptibility to them. Results showed different physiological patterns during persuasion compared to rest. However, there was no evidence of distinct physiological patterns associated with specific persuasion principles, although overall susceptibility seemed to be reflected in physiology to some extent.

PHENOMENOLOGICAL DIFFERENCES IN MUSIC- AND TELEVISION-EVOKED AUTOBIOGRAPHICAL MEMORIES

Kelly Jakubowski et al.

Summary: The study compared music-evoked autobiographical memories (MEAMs) and television-evoked autobiographical memories (TEAMs), finding that MEAMs exhibited greater episodic reliving, personal significance, and social content, and elicited more positive and intense emotions. The differences between MEAMs and TEAMs persisted even when matched on familiarity cues, indicating phenomenological differences in memories cued by music compared to television throughout adulthood.

Contributions of diagnostic, cognitive, and somatovisceral information to the prediction of fear ratings in spider phobic and non-spider-fearful individuals

Tatjana Aue et al.

Summary: The study examined the prediction of fear responses using machine learning analysis of data from an experiment involving spider phobic and non-spider fearful individuals. It found that somatovisceral responses contribute to predicting fear ratings, especially when individual data patterns are allowed to be learned. Additionally, the study highlighted the importance of pre-picture onset heart rate in enhancing predictive power, rather than heart rate reactivity.
