This article discusses the applications of fiber optic SPR sensors in sensing various physical, biological, and chemical parameters. The comprehensive examination of sensing parameters using various methods and models provides important guidance for researchers in the scientific community.
Among the numerous electrically dependent sensors, optical sensor technology has been a significant field of study over the last few decades. Surface plasmon resonance (SPR) sensors based on prisms have many significant benefits over other well-established photonics sensors. This article discusses the history, current state, and potential applications of fiber optic SPR sensors with a Kretschmann configuration focused on two-dimensional (2D) materials for sensing various physical, biological, and chemical parameters. The SPR methodology for sensing purposes has been explored in depth. The various novel approaches and analytical models were implemented to examine the several sensing parameters thoroughly. The analysis article's content can be critical for the scientific community that wishes to pursue research in SPR sensors. The review article's material may be of considerable interest to the research community, which plans to pursue this field of study.
