Genetic basis of acephalic spermatozoa syndrome, and intracytoplasmic sperm injection outcomes in infertile men: a systematic scoping review

Marziyeh Mazaheri Moghaddam et al.

Summary: This study found that acephalic spermatozoa syndrome has a genetic origin, and several genetic variations related to the pathogenesis of this anomaly have been identified. ICSI may provide a promising treatment for acephalic spermatozoa-associated male infertility. However, in addition to the importance of sperm head-tail junction integrity, other factors, whether within the sperm cell or female factors, may also be involved in the outcome of ICSI.

Biophysical optimization of preimplantation embryo culture: what mechanics can offer ART

Jamar Hawkins et al.

Summary: Mechanical biomarkers are gaining attention in assessing embryo morphology and promoting healthy preimplantation embryo development, with evidence suggesting their effectiveness as early indicators of developmental potential comparable to embryo morphology. Future research can explore the use of biomimetic mechanical cues to improve embryo culture systems.

Summary: This study examined the outcomes of cycles with and without preimplantation genetic testing for aneuploidy (PGT-A) in the UK HFEA data collection. The results showed significantly higher live birth rates for cycles with PGT-A compared to those without PGT-A, across different age groups.

Summary: Women with diminished ovarian reserve have lower euploid blastocyst rates, but no significant difference in live birth rates after euploid single-embryo transfer, regardless of age.

Genetic factors as potential molecular markers of human oocyte and embryo quality

Qing Sang et al.

Summary: This review outlines the genetic determinants of abnormalities in human oocyte maturation, fertilization, and early embryonic development, identifying 16 genes that may cause oocyte maturation arrest, fertilization failure, and embryonic lethality. These genetic markers lay the foundation for individualized genetic counseling and potential treatments in reproductive medicine.

The effects of Y chromosome microdeletions on in vitro fertilization outcomes, health abnormalities in offspring and recurrent pregnancy loss

Andrew P. Golin et al.

Summary: Male factor infertility due to Y chromosome microdeletions (YCMs) is a common cause of severe oligozoospermia and azoospermia. Men with YCMs often require assisted reproductive technology to achieve paternity. Further research is needed to better understand the effects of YCMs on in vitro fertilization outcomes, offspring health abnormalities, and recurrent pregnancy loss.

Summary: ICSI outcomes for severe asthenozoospermia with MMAF phenotype do not differ from those of other couples requiring ICSI, despite occasional technical difficulties. Genetic investigations should be considered for all men requiring ICSI for severe asthenozoospermia.

Association of medically assisted reproduction with offspring cord blood DNA methylation across cohorts

Doretta Caramaschi et al.

Summary: This study did not find strong evidence linking medically assisted reproduction with variation in infant blood cell DNA methylation. While some associations were detected in two study cohorts, they were not replicated in another cohort, suggesting the need for further research to identify replicable variation in DNA methylation due to medically assisted reproduction.

Reproductive Health Risks Associated with Occupational and Environmental Exposure to Pesticides

Aleksandra Fucic et al.

Summary: Occupational and environmental chemical exposures have been linked to decreased fertility and adverse reproductive outcomes in the past few decades. Pesticide exposure may increase the risk of chronic diseases, reduced fertility, and birth defects, as some pesticides are endocrine disruptors even at low doses. The review aims to summarize knowledge, highlight new findings, and interpret mechanisms connecting pesticides to infertility and pregnancy complications.

Effects of Endocrine-Disrupting Chemicals on Endometrial Receptivity and Embryo Implantation: A Systematic Review of 34 Mouse Model Studies

Donatella Caserta et al.

Summary: Continuous exposure to EDCs poses a risk for reduced fertility and fecundity in women, with primary effects being reduction in implantation sites and pregnancy rates. EDC exposure compromises the endometrial expression of estrogen and progesterone receptors, as well as key markers of receptivity such as MUC1, HOXA10, Inn, and E-cadherin.

Life Stories of Voluntarily Childless Older People: A Retrospective View on Their Reasons and Experiences

Hannelore Stegen et al.

Summary: This study found that older people who choose voluntary childlessness experience complex emotions of acceptance, loss, and relief, with most of them not regretting their decision. While this phenomenon is sometimes questioned in scientific literature, each older adult has personal reasons and experiences regarding their childless status.
