Association between airborne particulate matter and renal function: An analysis of 2.5 million young adults

Household Smoke-Exposure Risks Associated with Cooking Fuels and Cooking Places in Tanzania: A Cross-Sectional Analysis of Demographic and Health Survey Data

Summary: This study explored the prevalence and geographical variations in smoke-exposure risks associated with cooking practices and fuels in Tanzania. The findings indicated that households using smoke-producing fuels for indoor cooking had a high SER, with a higher prevalence in certain geographical zones. Wealthier households and those with higher education attainment were more likely to have very low SER, while households headed by older individuals or with larger family sizes were less likely to have very low SER. High SER prevalence in Tanzania is a significant public health concern, suggesting the need for improved cooking stoves and cleaner fuels to minimize adverse effects.

The Impact of Particulate Matter (PM2.5) on Human Retinal Development in hESC-Derived Retinal Organoids

Summary: The study demonstrated that PM2.5 exposure affected the formation of neural retina derived from hEROs, leading to reduced proliferation and increased apoptosis. Transcriptome analysis showed that PM2.5 treatment was linked to MAPK and PI3K/Akt pathways, and reduced the level of FGFs, particularly FGF8 and FGF10, suggesting potential inhibition of proliferation and increase of apoptosis during early human retinal development.

Characterization of blood protein adsorption on PM2.5 and its implications on cellular uptake and cytotoxicity of PM2.5

The results showed an abundance of serum albumin, hemoglobin, and fibrinogen proteins in the corona, and highlighted the contributions of various types of interactions in the adsorption process. Additionally, the study demonstrated that the protein corona could affect cellular internalization of PM2.5 and subsequent oxidative stress responses.

This review provides new insights into the pathological mechanism of MN by discussing the similarities in pathological mechanisms triggered by different antigens.
