Risks of metabolic syndrome and diabetes with integrase inhibitor-based therapy: Republication

Shahini Shah et al.

Summary: Evidence suggests that integrase inhibitors are significantly associated with weight gain and may lead to an increased risk of metabolic syndrome and diabetes. Though there is literature indicating a neutral effect on lipids, there is also evidence that INSTIs may contribute to treatment-emergent obesity, increasing the risk of metabolic syndrome. Further research is needed to fully understand the long-term metabolic impact of INSTIs, especially when used in combination with specific antiretroviral drugs.
