Chitosan-supported deep eutectic solvent as bio-based electrolyte for flexible supercapacitor

Vitaly K. Vorobiov et al.

Summary: The study focuses on a solid polymer electrolyte based on choline chloride/lactic acid deep eutectic solvent encapsulated in a chitosan matrix, showing high ionic conductivity and wide electrochemical stability window, suitable for electrochemical energy storage devices. Additionally, film electrodes prepared on this matrix exhibit high specific capacitance for assembling supercapacitors.

Deep Eutectic Solvents: A Review of Fundamentals and Applications

Benworth B. Hansen et al.

Summary: Deep eutectic solvents (DESs) exhibit significant depressions in melting points and tunable physicochemical properties, but there is still a lack of predictive understanding of their microscopic mechanisms and structure-property relationships. Research on complex hydrogen bonding is crucial for a deeper understanding and development of fundamental frameworks for DESs.

Summary: In this study, deep eutectic solvents were used as plasticizers for chitosan films, significantly enhancing flexibility and water vapor permeability while slightly decreasing tensile strength. The films prepared showed smooth and uniform surfaces, making them potentially suitable for use as active packaging materials.

Preparation and characterization of various chitin-glucan complexes derived from white button mushroom using a deep eutectic solvent-based ecofriendly method

Hireem Kim et al.

Summary: In this study, various chitin-glucan complexes (CGCs) were prepared from white button mushroom using deep eutectic solvents (DESs) and compared for their properties. The results showed that CGCs prepared using DESs containing betaine and urea had higher yields, lower protein and mineral contents, lower crystallinity, and more porous surfaces compared to other CGCs. This DES-based method shows potential for preparing advanced biomaterials from mushrooms under mild and ecofriendly conditions.

Basics and properties of deep eutectic solvents: a review

Tracy El Achkar et al.

Summary: Deep eutectic solvents, emerging in green chemistry only seventeen years ago, have led to a plethora of publications covering various research areas and diverse fields of application. They are seen as promising alternatives to conventional organic solvents due to their straightforward preparation using highly accessible and natural compounds, as well as high tunability in properties. The physicochemical properties of these solvents, such as phase behavior, density, viscosity, ionic conductivity, surface tension, and polarity, can be controlled by factors like the choice of forming compounds, molar ratio, temperature, and water content.
