Clean dyeing of acrylic fabric by sustainable red bacterial pigment based on nano-suspension system

Yanfei Ren et al.

Summary: This research utilized different surfactant fermentation systems to transfer prodigiosins from the interior of thalli to the exterior, achieving efficient clean extraction. The extracted prodigiosins were used as natural dyestuff for acrylic fabric dyeing, and cationic dyeing technology based on nanosuspension system was developed to endow acrylic fabric with deep color and antibacterial functionality. This method has potential generalization for other microbial pigments.

Soo-Yeon Ahn et al.

Summary: In this study, synthetic allomelanin was produced using wild-type Streptomyces glaucescens and recombinant Escherichia coli strains. The synthesized melanin exhibited comparable radical scavenging capacity to eumelanin and was used in cotton fabric dyeing for improved dyeing fastness. Recombinant E. coli strains expressing various enzymes were investigated for improved melanin production and novel functionalities, with chemical analysis attempted using H-NMR, FT-IR, and MALDI-TOF.
