Experimental Study on Temperature Response of Different Ranks of Coal to Liquid Nitrogen Soaking

Shumin Liu et al.

Summary: The temperature curves of coal samples under liquid nitrogen soaking can be divided into accelerated cooling stage, decelerated cooling stage, and maintained low-temperature stage. With an increase in soaking times, the time required to reach the low-temperature stage gradually shortens. The heating/cooling speed follows a logarithmic function, and the order of absolute values is lignite > bituminite > anthracite.

Variation features of unfrozen water content of water-saturated coal under low freezing temperature

Bo Li et al.

Summary: Experimental results show that the swelling stress of ice destroys the original pore structure of coal samples, causing a hysteresis phenomenon in the unfrozen water content during the freezing process. At the phase equilibrium stage of freezing, unfrozen water mainly exists as film water on pore surfaces and pore water in pores with radius below 10 nm, with the freezing point of water decreasing exponentially as temperature increases.

Study on Temperature Variation and Pore Structure Evolution within Coal under the Effect of Lilquid Nitrogen Mass Transfer

Bo Li et al.

Summary: Liquid nitrogen freezing is an effective permeability enhancement technology in the extraction of oil, shale gas, and coalbed methane. The mass transfer of liquid nitrogen can accelerate coal temperature variation and promote pore development, leading to crack initiation, expansion, and connection in the coal sample. This study provides technical support for efficient exploitation of CBM resources and improvement of CBM extraction rate.

A dynamic evolution model of coal permeability during enhanced coalbed methane recovery by N2 injection: experimental observations and numerical simulation

Bo Li et al.

Summary: This study suggests that ECBM recovery by N-2 injection is a feasible technical method for low-permeability coal reservoirs. The research found that coal permeability increases gradually and finally stabilizes during the N-2 injection process. The proposed dynamic evolution model of coal permeability can be applied to predict CBM production and guide engineering applications.
