Expression and co-expression of serotonin and dopamine transporters in social anxiety disorder: a multitracer positron emission tomography study

Olof R. Hjorth et al.

Summary: This study found that patients with social anxiety disorder exhibited higher expression and co-expression of serotonin and dopamine transporter proteins in specific brain regions, suggesting a possible underlying mechanism of monoamine dysregulation in SAD symptomatology. The differential binding patterns of SERT and DAT in SAD patients compared to healthy controls could potentially be used as therapeutic targets.
