High-temperature pyrolysis modeling of a thermally thick biomass particle based on an MD-derived tar cracking model

Tao Chen et al.

Summary: In this study, a new algorithm was developed to investigate the heat transfer and multiphase flow in high-temperature pyrolysis of biomass particles, as well as the influence of temperature gradient inside the particles on primary pyrolysis products. Simulation results showed that using the new tar decomposition model significantly improved the yields of light gas and tar, as well as provided more reasonable predictions of species yield histories.

Solids flow patterns in large-scale circulating fluidised bed boilers: Experimental evaluation under fluid-dynamically down-scaled conditions

Tove Djerf et al.

Summary: This study aims to explore the mechanisms of solid flow pattern in large-scale Circulating Fluidised Bed (CFB) boilers. Through experiments, it was found that the presence or absence of a dense bed at the bottom of the furnace significantly affects the entrainment of solids, while the back-flow of solids at the exit region is negligible at low gas velocities but becomes significant with higher gas velocities. The estimation of external solids flux based on top flux in the furnace may not always be valid.

Heat and mass transfer to/from active particles in a fluidize bed-An analysis of the Baskakov-Palchonok correlation

Bo Leckner

Summary: The heat and mass transfer between single active particles surrounded by inert particles in a fluidized bed is studied, focusing on the size ratio of inert to active particles. A generalized scheme for calculations in bubbling fluidization is presented, along with discussions on its application in fuel conversion.

Experimental investigation of particle adhesion on the wall due to electrostatic charge in gas-solid fluidized beds

Peng Zhang et al.

Summary: This study examined the characteristics of wall particles using polyethylene particles and three different wall materials to reveal the adhesion mechanism. The results showed that wall particles are highly charged and relatively small during the fluidization process, with the size increasing along with the development of wall layers. The proposed mechanism for particle adhesion on the wall involves the interaction between the electric field force of the wall and the van der Waals force.
