Numerical analysis of hydrogen release, dispersion and combustion in a tunnel with fuel cell vehicles using all-speed CFD code GASFLOW-MPI

Yabing Li et al.

Summary: In recent years, hydrogen energy has been rapidly expanding worldwide, drawing considerable attention to hydrogen safety issues. Accidental hydrogen release in an open-air environment is not considered to pose significant hazards, but when released in confined spaces such as parking garages and tunnels, the risks are higher. Predicting key accident processes like hydrogen release, dispersion, and combustion is crucial for safety assessments and installing safety measures during accidents.

Investigation of Chinese residents' community response to high-speed railway noise

Lan Zhang et al.

Summary: The study shows that high-speed railway noise has a negative impact on Chinese residents, with annoyance and activity interference increasing exponentially with noise levels. Background noise has a significant effect on the evaluation of noise annoyance, while the duration of a single noise event may contribute to activity disturbance.

Combustion characteristics of non-premixed CH4/CO2 jet flames in coflow air at normal and elevated temperatures

Xing Li et al.

Summary: The experimental study compared the combustion characteristics of CH4/CO2 and CH4/N-2 non-premixed jet flames, showing that CO2 dilution leads to higher lift-off heights and lower blowout limits in turbulent flames. Additionally, elevated air temperature significantly increases the range of stable lifted flames. Pre-mixed flame models were used to analyze liftoff heights and blowout velocities, revealing a linear relationship between non-dimensional liftoff height and fuel jet velocity, as well as between non-dimensional blowout velocity and Reynolds number.

Experimental study on temperature profile in a branched tunnel fire under natural ventilation considering different fire locations

Peng Lei et al.

Summary: In this study, reduced scale experiments were conducted in a branched tunnel to investigate the impact of different fire locations on air temperature and ceiling temperature. The results showed that the fire located at the intersection tilted towards the sidewall, leading to a slightly lower maximum temperature beneath the ceiling. A model predicting the maximum ceiling temperature and a dimensionless expression for longitudinal temperature decay in a branched tunnel were proposed based on experimental data.

Study on effects of molecule structure on exhaust emissions from RCCI engine fueled with low alcohol isomers

Weiqiang Han et al.

Summary: The study on RCCI engine shows that emissions are influenced by different factors, and identifying the real influencing factors and their sequence is essential for optimizing exhaust emissions. Different emissions are affected by different real influencing factors, with NOX emission and particle mass concentration being unrelated to molecule structure and only correlated to SOI. All emissions are unrelated to OHP, only HC emission is correlated to MB, while SCC is correlated to multiple emissions, and emission types correlated to RO and SOI are the most.

Study of smoke back-layering length with different longitudinal fire locations in inclined tunnels under natural ventilation

Jie Kong et al.

Summary: The study investigates the effect of longitudinal fire locations on smoke behavior characteristics induced by inclined tunnel fires. Simulation results show that the smoke back-layering length decreases with increasing downstream length, and there is a linear positive correlation between upstream inlet airflow velocity and downstream length. The study also establishes a new prediction equation for the dimensionless smoke back-layering length.

Effects of equivalence ratio and blending ratio on the ignition delays of n-pentane/hydrogen mixtures under engine relevant pressure

Xue Jiang et al.

Summary: The study found that the ignition delay times of n-pentane/hydrogen mixtures are affected by equivalence ratio under the current conditions, and the chemistry interaction between the two fuels shows that hydrogen reacts independently from n-pentane. Additionally, hydrogen mainly supplies H radicals for H-abstraction reactions of n-pentane after blending, and the oxidation chemistry of hydrogen is inhibited after blending.

An experimental study on smoke back-layering and critical velocity in tunnel fires with canyon cross wind

Wangda Zhao et al.

Summary: This study experimentally investigated the thermal smoke back-layering and critical velocity of highway tunnels in alpine gorge areas with canyon crosswinds. The results showed that increasing longitudinal ventilation velocity decreases smoke back-layering length, while increasing canyon crosswind velocity increases both critical velocity and smoke back-layering length.

Experimental and numerical study of combustion and emissions performance in a hydrogen-enriched Wankel engine at stoichiometric and lean operations

Cheng Shi et al.

Summary: Based on experimental and numerical simulations, the addition of hydrogen in a retrofitted Wankel engine was found to increase combustion temperature and pressure, optimizing combustion processes and improving engine stability. However, it also led to increased nitrogen oxide emissions, which could be mitigated by diluting the mixture.

Summary: The study highlights the importance of addressing fire issues in utility tunnels and proposes a two-dimensional temperature estimation methodology for designers and firefighters. By conducting full-scale fire tests in utility tunnels, researchers have identified patterns in temperature distribution and ceiling jet thickness, which have been integrated into a framework for practical application in fire protection engineering.
