Effects of zwitterionic surfactant adsorption on the component distribution in the crude oil droplet: A molecular simulation study

Peng Lian et al.

Summary: The molecular interactions between various components in crude oil and the zwitterionic surfactant DDPS were investigated using MD simulation and quantum chemistry calculations. DDPS molecules can form an organized adsorption layer at the crude oil surface, leading to the movement of components in both the hydrophobic interior and interfacial layer of crude oil droplets. Complex interactions (hydrophobic, electrostatic, and cationic) between DDPS molecules and components are responsible for the final distribution and configuration in the crude oil/water/DDPS system.

Comprehensive molecular scale modeling of anionic surfactant-asphaltene interactions

Mohammadali Ahmadi et al.

Summary: Using molecular dynamics simulation, this study evaluated the interactions between asphaltene and anionic surfactants under thermodynamic conditions close to thermal-based oil recovery. The presence of a benzene ring in a surfactant structure was found to enhance interactions, especially van der Waals interactions. Furthermore, the position and number of heteroatoms in asphaltene architecture play a crucial role in its behavior in a solution.

Effect of non-ionic surfactants on the adsorption of polycyclic aromatic compounds at water/oil interface: A molecular simulation study

Xiaoyu Sun et al.

Summary: This study used molecular simulations to investigate the adsorption and interactions between polycyclic aromatic compounds (PACs) and non-ionic surfactants at water/oil interfaces. The findings revealed the complex interplay between PAC-surfactant interactions, PAC solubility, and the structure-dependent PAC aggregation. Different non-ionic surfactants were found to have different effects on the adsorption of PACs at the interfaces, with some inducing desorption and others enhancing adsorption. The study also identified how the roles of non-ionic surfactants can be affected by their concentration, as well as the solubility and interfacial behaviors of the PACs.
