Influence of behavioral state on the neuromodulatory effect of low-intensity transcranial ultrasound stimulation on hippocampal CA1 in mouse

Xingran Wang et al.

Summary: The study found that neural activity induced by ultrasound stimulation in mice is modulated by the behavioral state, with significant differences in neural activity and response under different behavioral states. Additionally, the intensity of ultrasound also has a linear impact on neural activity, showing potential benefits for the application of ultrasound stimulation in neuroscience.

TRANSCRANIAL FOCUSED ULTRASOUND ENHANCES SENSORY DISCRIMINATION CAPABILITY THROUGH SOMATOSENSORY CORTICAL EXCITATION

Chang Liu et al.

Summary: This study investigated the neural mechanism underlying ultrasound-mediated somatosensory enhancement by conducting tactile vibration frequency discrimination tasks while applying tFUS onto the primary somatosensory cortex. The results showed that tFUS was able to improve sensory discrimination capability through excitatory effects at the targeted sensory cortex, as revealed by EEG and ESI analysis.

Vagus nerve stimulation in brain diseases: Therapeutic applications and biological mechanisms

Yue Wang et al.

Summary: With the development of medical technology, vagus nerve stimulation (VNS) has been approved by the FDA as an alternative treatment for refractory epilepsy, refractory depression, cluster headaches, and migraines. Although VNS has shown promising results for more brain diseases like Parkinson's disease, autistic spectrum disorder, and traumatic brain injury, the specific biological mechanisms underlying its beneficial effects remain incompletely understood.

Low-Intensity Focused Ultrasound-Mediated Attenuation of Acute Seizure Activity Based on EEG Brain Functional Connectivity

Minjian Zhang et al.

Summary: The study focused on using low-intensity focused ultrasound (LIFU) on the brains of epileptic rats to analyze the impact on the brain network and explored the mechanism of ultrasound neuromodulation. The results showed that LIFU significantly decreased the brain network connection strength across multiple brain regions, especially in the low-frequency band. Additionally, various brain network indicators changed significantly in the low-frequency band after sonication.

Transcranial Focused Ultrasound Neuromodulation of Voluntary Movement-Related Cortical Activity in Humans

Kai Yu et al.

Summary: Transcranial focused ultrasound (tFUS) is an emerging non-invasive brain stimulation tool that can safely modulate brain circuits. This study demonstrates the neuromodulatory effects of low-intensity tFUS on enhancing human voluntary movement-related cortical activities. The findings suggest that tFUS has the potential to enhance endogenous motor cortical activities through excitatory modulation.

Transcranial Ultrasound Stimulation of Hypothalamus in Aging Mice

Na Pang et al.

Summary: The study found that transcranial ultrasound stimulation (TUS) of the hypothalamus improved movement and learning behavior in aging mice, as well as significantly increased grip strength and reduced inflammation and apoptosis levels after treatment. However, the effects of TUS were not long-lasting. Overall, TUS may effectively modulate the hypothalamus and provide a new method for controlling aging.
