Information Storage in the Stochastic Ising Model

Summary: This study investigates how the temporal evolution of physical states in magnetic storage media affects their information capacity by examining information retention in locally-interacting particle systems. Under zero-temperature dynamics, it is shown that a root n number of bits can be stored indefinitely by coding over stable, striped configurations, with achievable higher orders of information capacity for finite time intervals t. Furthermore, in the positive but low temperature regime, results demonstrate limitations on information retention when scaling time with the inverse temperature beta, as well as the effectiveness of a stripe-based coding scheme for retaining bits for a certain time period.
