STRait Razor Online: An enhanced user interface to facilitate interpretation of MPS data

Jonathan L. King et al.

Summary: Since 2013, STRait Razor has provided a software solution for analyzing MPS data, including primary and secondary analysis. The software, accessible through browsers or as a standalone application, enables quick processing of data and report generation. A preliminary triaging system has been implemented to assist users in interpreting loci suspected of heterozygote imbalance.

Forensic nanopore sequencing of STRs and SNPs using Verogen's ForenSeq DNA Signature Prep Kit and MinION

Zi-Lin Ren et al.

Summary: In this study, the use of nanopore sequencing for SNP and STR profiling was explored using the Verogen ForenSeq DNA Signature Prep Kit. The MinION device was able to reliably genotype SNP loci with high accuracy, but STR typing proved to be error prone and locus dependent. Custom bioinformatics workflow was developed to select SNP and STR loci showing high consistency between nanopore and Illumina sequencing, which could be potential candidates for forensic analysis panel design based on nanopore sequencing.

Exploring STR sequencing for forensic DNA intelligence databasing using the Austrian National DNA Database as an example

Petra Hoelzl-Mueller et al.

Summary: This study evaluated the performance of MPS for analyzing STR samples and provided MPS-based STR data valid for the Austrian population. It discussed forensically relevant parameters, such as concordance and marker performance, and identified new sequence variants in the Austrian dataset.

Towards population-scale long-read sequencing

Wouter De Coster et al.

Summary: Long-read sequencing technologies have advanced to the point where they can be applied to variant detection at a population scale. New computational tools have led to the emergence of population-scale studies in the past two years, with many more expected in the future. The review covers recent developments, challenges, experimental design guidance, as well as strategies for variant validation and genotyping.
