Distinguishing meat reducers from unrestricted omnivores, vegetarians and vegans: A comprehensive comparison of Australian consumers

Lenka Malek et al.

Summary: Meat reducers, a growing but understudied subgroup in Australia, exhibit unique meat consumption behaviors, beliefs, and importance placed on egoistic food choice factors. Strong beliefs in the adequacy of meat-free diets and lower importance placed on egoistic food choice factors are predictors of meat reducers compared to unrestricted omnivores. This study provides insight on addressing concerns and motivations of consumers with distinct meat consumption preferences.

Young adults' experiences with flexitarianism: The 4Cs

Joya A. Kemper et al.

Summary: The research shows that young adults are motivated to transition towards flexitarianism due to increased control, enabled through cooking strategies, social support, and experimentation. They are driven by concerns about health, variety, price, social unease, as well as environmental and ethical motivations. Social gatherings and positive associations with variety, nutrients, fullness, and taste are the main reasons for continued meat consumption.
