The Effects of Temperature and Salinity Stressors on the Survival, Condition and Valve Closure of the Manila Clam, Venerupis philippinarum in a Holding Facility

Summary: The Manila clam Venerupis philippinarum showed higher survival rates and valve closures at lower temperatures and constant high salinity conditions. However, exposure to higher temperatures and wider salinity fluctuations had a detrimental effect on clam survival. The synergistic effect of temperature and salinity stressors significantly decreased valve closure and survival, indicating a higher sensitivity of clams to combined stressors.
