Alterations in intestinal microbiota diversity, composition, and function in patients with sarcopenia

Lin Kang et al.

Summary: 16S rRNA sequencing of fecal samples has revealed reduced microbial diversity and decreased abundance of butyrate-producing bacteria in individuals with sarcopenia or potentially sarcopenic. Additionally, there is an overrepresentation of lipopolysaccharide biosynthesis in these individuals, indicating a pro-inflammatory metagenome associated with sarcopenia. These findings suggest that alterations in the intestinal microbiota may play a role in the loss of skeletal muscle mass and function in sarcopenia.

Extracellular Vesicles from Child Gut Microbiota Enter into Bone to Preserve Bone Mass and Strength

Jiang-Hua Liu et al.

Summary: Recent studies have shown that gut microbiota from children can prevent decreases in bone mass and strength in osteoporotic mice induced by ovariectomy. The secretion of extracellular vesicles plays a crucial role in the bone-protective effects induced by gut microbiota and the bacterium Akkermansia muciniphila.
