Fixed-dose combination antibiotics: The search for evidence using the example of ampicillin-cloxacillin

Ben Sayer et al.

Summary: The high consumption of irrational fixed-dose combination antibiotics may lead to antimicrobial resistance. Studies on the safety and efficacy of ampicillin-cloxacillin as an FDC are limited, and more research is needed to determine its differences compared to other treatments. Collaboration and standardized search formats are necessary for a more evidence-based approach to the use of FDCs.

High global consumption of potentially inappropriate fixed dose combination antibiotics: Analysis of data from 75 countries

Barbara Bortone et al.

Summary: Antibiotic fixed dose combinations (FDCs) can offer clinical benefits, but there is high consumption globally, particularly in middle-income countries. The majority of FDC antibiotics are not approved by either the US FDA or WHO EML, indicating a need for international initiatives to regulate their manufacturing and sales.
