Multiple TaqMan qPCR and droplet digital PCR (ddPCR) diagnostics for pesticide resistance monitoring and management, in the major agricultural pest Tetranychus urticae

Konstantinos Mavridis et al.

Summary: Decisions on pesticide use in agriculture are becoming more challenging due to the decrease in available chemicals. Molecular diagnostics for pest resistance can help in decision-making. Newly developed T. urticae molecular diagnostic platforms could be valuable for pesticide resistance management.

Reduced proinsecticide activation by cytochrome P450 confers coumaphos resistance in the major bee parasite Varroa destructor

Spyridon Vlogiannitis et al.

Summary: Varroa destructor mites from the island Andros exhibit high levels of resistance to coumaphos, with reduced activation of the proinsecticide by a cytochrome P450 enzyme being the main resistance mechanism. Transcriptome analysis revealed overexpression of CYP4DP24 and underexpression of CYP3012A6 and CYP4EP4 in resistant mites. RNA interference of CYP4EP4 in susceptible mites prevented coumaphos activation and decreased toxicity, suggesting a potential solution for overcoming resistance in Varroa destructor populations.

Co-occurrence of subunit B and C mutations in respiratory complex II confers high resistance levels to pyflubumide and cyenopyrafen in the two-spotted spider mite Tetranychus urticae (Acari: Tetranychidae)

Ayumu Maeoka et al.

Summary: This study found that individual mutations of B-I260V or C-S56L alone did not confer high resistance levels to pyflubumide and cyenopyrafen in Tetranychus urticae, but the co-occurrence of these two mutations could result in very high resistance levels. The effects of mutations vary among complex II inhibitors.
