Preparation of Sulfonated Polytriazoles with a Phosphaphenanthrene Unit via Click Polymerization: Fabrication of Membranes and Properties Thereof

Arijit Ghorai et al.

Summary: A series of sulfonated polytriazoles were synthesized via copper-induced click polymerization, demonstrating high molecular weight, thermal stability, and proton conductivity, with balanced water management and high oxidative stability. Additionally, the membranes showed a hydrophilic-hydrophobic phase-segregated morphology and comparable performance to Nafion 117 in microbial fuel cells.

Effect ofsulfonic acid-functionalized polysilsesquioxane on new semifluorinated sulfonated polytriazole composites and investigation of proton exchange membrane properties

Sayantani Saha et al.

Summary: A new semifluorinated sulfonated copolytriazole was successfully synthesized and used to prepare polymer composite materials, exhibiting desirable properties such as high thermal stability and proton conductivity. The polymer composites showed proton conductivities ranging from 62 to 195 mS/cm at different temperatures and in a hydrated state.

Enhancing Proton Conductivity of Sulfonated Poly(ether ether ketone)-Based Membranes by Incorporating Phosphotungstic-Acid-Coupled Graphene Oxide

Quan Peng et al.

Summary: The long-range proton transfer pathways constructed with HPW@mGO nanosheets integrated into polymers significantly enhance the proton conductivities of the nanohybrid membranes under various humidity conditions. The distinct proton conduction behavior of HPW and IMILs, along with the presence of long-range two-dimensional interfacial ionic pathways, contribute to this enhancement.

Summary: Developing a robust metal-organic framework for efficient proton conduction in fuel cells is challenging. The synthesized Ni-MOF with a tetradentate aromatic phosphonate ligand shows high stability and potential proton conductivity after external proton doping. High proton conductivity was achieved under humid conditions, indicating promising application prospects for this Ni-MOF.

Ion exchange capacity controlled biphenol-based sulfonated poly(arylene ether sulfone) for polymer electrolyte membrane water electrolyzers: Comparison of random and multi-block copolymers

Song-Yi Han et al.

Summary: The possibility of using hydrocarbon-based sulfonated polymers as alternatives to PFSA membranes was studied, and it was found that random BPSH membranes showed better performance in terms of hydrogen permeability and proton to hydrogen selectivity. The best performing random BPSH membrane exhibited better performance compared to Nafion 212, but had a higher degradation rate in an accelerated stress test.

Chemically sustainable fuel cells via layer-by-layer fabrication of sulfonated poly(arylene ether sulfone) membranes containing cerium oxide nanoparticles

Vo Dinh Cong Tinh et al.

Summary: To facilitate the commercialization of proton exchange membrane fuel cells, the decomposition of the polymer electrolyte membrane needs to be addressed. A functional sulfonic acid group grafted onto poly(arylene ether sulfone) by sulfide linkages was synthesized to prevent degradation. Additionally, cerium oxide nanoparticles were prepared for radical scavenging. The layer-by-layer membrane containing cerium oxide showed lower voltage loss rate and maintained proton conductivity.
