Relativistic dissipative spin dynamics in the relaxation time approximation

Samapan Bhadury et al.

Summary: The concept of the Wigner function is utilized to build a semi-classical kinetic theory that describes the evolution of the axial current phase-space density of spin-1/2 particles under the relaxation time approximation. The approach can be applied to investigate spin polarization effects in relativistic matter, especially in heavy-ion collisions. Additionally, a new expression for the axial current based on classical treatment of spin is introduced, along with non-equilibrium corrections to the spin tensor, which define the structure of spin transport coefficients in relativistic matter for the first time.

Shear-Induced Spin Polarization in Heavy-Ion Collisions

Baochi Fu et al.

Summary: The study reveals that in noncentral heavy-ion collisions, the shear-induced polarization (SIP) competes with thermal vorticity effects, with SIP always showing the same azimuthal angle dependence as experimental data. In the scenario where Lambda inherits and memorizes the spin polarization of a strange quark, SIP wins the competition, leading to qualitatively agreement between the resulting azimuthal angle dependent spin polarizations P(y) and P-z and the experimental data.

Polarization as a signature of local parity violation in hot QCD matter

F. Becattini et al.

Summary: In this study, a method for measuring chirality imbalance in relativistic nuclear collisions using the helicity of final state baryons is proposed. The method does not require coupling to the electromagnetic field like the Chiral Magnetic Effect. It is shown that in the presence of chirality imbalance, spin 1/2 baryons and anti-baryons receive an additional contribution to their polarization along their momentum direction, which can be detected through studying azimuthal angular correlation.

Spin-thermal shear coupling in a relativistic fluid

F. Becattini et al.

Summary: It is shown that the shear tensor in a relativistic fluid contributes to the spin polarization of particles in addition to vorticity, acceleration, and temperature gradient. This non-dissipative contribution to the spin polarization vector may have important consequences for solving local polarization puzzles seen in relativistic heavy ion collisions.
