Cannabidiol as a treatment for craving and relapse in individuals with cocaine use disorder: a randomized placebo-controlled trial

Violaine Mongeau-Perusse et al.

Summary: This study tested the efficacy of CBD for reducing craving and preventing relapse in people with CUD. However, the findings showed that CBD treatment did not reduce cocaine craving or relapse among participants being treated for CUD.

Cannabidiol prevents priming- and stress-induced reinstatement of the conditioned place preference induced by cocaine in mice

Claudia Calpe-Lopez et al.

Summary: The study found that CBD may reduce reinstatement of seeking cocaine in mice, and CBD itself does not induce reinstatement but can block the reinstating effects of cocaine priming and social defeat. Furthermore, cocaine priming increased the gene expression of DAT in the ventral tegmental area, which was completely reversed by CBD.

Cannabidiol for the treatment of crack-cocaine craving: an exploratory double-blind study

Carolina de Meneses-Gaya et al.

Summary: The study showed a significant reduction in craving levels over the 10-day period in both CBD and placebo groups, with no differences between them. CBD did not have an effect on symptoms of anxiety, depression, and sleep alterations. Further studies with larger outpatient samples involving different doses and treatment periods are needed to investigate the potential of CBD in reducing crack-cocaine self-administration.

Cannabis use in adolescence and risk of psychosis: Are there factors that moderate this relationship? A systematic review and meta-analysis

Sarah Kanana Kiburi et al.

Summary: Adolescent cannabis use is associated with an increased risk for psychosis later in life, with factors such as age of onset, frequency of use, childhood trauma, concurrent substance use, and genetic factors moderating this relationship. Further research is needed to fully understand the interaction between these factors and psychosis risk.

Cocaine and Marijuana Polysubstance Use and Cocaine Use Disorder: Investigating Mediated Effects through Patterns of Cocaine Use

Yiyang Liu et al.

Summary: The study found that compared to users who only use cocaine, users who use a combination of cocaine and marijuana are less likely to heavily use cocaine, which in turn is associated with a decreased risk of cocaine use disorder. Future research is needed to further explore the relationship between cocaine-marijuana polysubstance use and reduced risks of cocaine use disorder.
