Histopathological Validation of Dark-Blood Late Gadolinium Enhancement MRI Without Additional Magnetization Preparation

Robert J. Holtackers et al.

Summary: In this study, a dark-blood late gadolinium enhancement (LGE) method was histopathologically validated in a porcine animal model with induced myocardial infarction. The dark-blood LGE method demonstrated superior visualization and quantification of ischemic scar compared to the current in vivo reference standard, with significantly higher scar-to-blood contrast. The results showed a high level of agreement with histopathology and no significant bias, indicating the potential for improved diagnostic accuracy in evaluating scar tissue.

Replacement Myocardial Fibrosis in Patients With Mitral Valve Prolapse Relation to Mitral Regurgitation, Ventricular Remodeling, and Arrhythmia

Anne-Laure Constant Dit Beaufils et al.

Summary: The study found that LV replacement myocardial fibrosis is common in patients with MVP, associated with mitral valve apparatus alteration, more dilated LV, MR grade, and ventricular arrhythmia, and independently associated with cardiovascular events. These findings suggest an MVP-related myocardial disease, with cardiac magnetic resonance providing additional information for MVP patients.

Resolving the Disproportionate Left Ventricular Enlargement in Mitral Valve Prolapse Due to Barlow Disease Insights From Cardiovascular Magnetic Resonance

K. Carlos El-Tallawi et al.

Summary: The study found that in patients with Barlow disease, despite similar transvalvular mitral regurgitation, those with larger prolapse volume had larger left ventricular end-diastolic volume and total volume load. Increasing prolapse volume and mitral regurgitation led to incremental increase in left ventricular end-diastolic volume in Barlow disease patients.

Dark-blood late gadolinium enhancement cardiovascular magnetic resonance for improved detection of subendocardial scar: a review of current techniques

Robert J. Holtackers et al.

Summary: Late gadolinium enhancement cardiovascular magnetic resonance has been the reference standard for assessing myocardial viability non-invasively for nearly 20 years, but detecting subendocardial scar patterns can be challenging due to blood signal interference. Different dark-blood LGE methods have been proposed to address this issue, showing promise for non-invasive assessment of myocardial viability.
