Biocontrol Potential of Endophytic Actinobacteria against Fusarium solani, the Causal Agent of Sudden Decline Syndrome on Date Palm in the UAE

Aisha A. Alblooshi et al.

Summary: This study isolated 31 endophytic streptomycete and non-streptomycete actinobacteria from healthy date palm roots, and identified two antagonists, S. polychromogenes and S. coeruleoprunus, that effectively suppressed the development of sudden decline syndrome. These strains exhibited different antifungal mechanisms, with one producing cell-wall degrading enzymes and the other producing diffusible antifungal metabolites. These findings are significant for disease management.

Green nanotechnology for preserving and enriching yogurt with biologically available iron (II)

Mohamed T. El-Saadony et al.

Summary: Bio iron (II) nanoparticles exhibit antimicrobial and antioxidant properties, making them suitable for yogurt preservation and enhancement of quality. Yogurt supplemented with 200μg/mL of bio-Fe (II) nanoparticles scored highest in taste, flavor, and color, while levels of 200 or 400μg/mL of bio-Fe (II) nanoparticles can safely prolong yogurt's shelf life. Blood iron parameters increased significantly within normal ranges with increasing concentrations of Fe (II) nanoparticles.

Trichoderma Biological Control to Protect Sensitive Maize Hybrids against Late Wilt Disease in the Field

Ofir Degani et al.

Summary: Late wilt, caused by the fungus Magnaporthiopsis maydis, is a severe disease affecting maize fields in Israel. Traditional control methods involve using maize cultivars with reduced sensitivity to the disease, but the effectiveness may decrease over time due to the presence of high virulent isolates of M. maydis. Recent research has shown promising results using Trichoderma spp. as biocontrol agents, with potential to improve crop yield and reduce pathogen DNA in maize plants. Further studies are needed to explore the full potential of biological control in protecting maize crops against Late wilt.
