Melamine induces reproductive dysfunction via down-regulated the phosphorylation of p38 and downstream transcription factors Max and Sap1a in mice testes

Shuming Chen et al.

Summary: The study found that low-dose melamine exposure reduces sperm quality, alters testicular histological structure, and decreases the mRNA expression levels of specific genes such as p38, ERK1/2, MAX, and Sap1a. Analysis of p38 and phosphorylated p38 suggests that the downregulated phosphorylation of p38 and downstream transcription factors MAX and Sap1a play crucial roles in male reproductive dysfunction caused by melamine.

ERK and p38 MAPK inhibition controls NF-E2 degradation and profibrotic signaling in renal proximal tubule cells

Jia Li et al.

Summary: This study demonstrated the activation of multiple MAPK pathways in TGF-beta treated HK-11 cells and the crucial role of NF-E2 in the fibrotic process. Blocking ERK and p38 MAPK preserved NF-E2 expression and decreased fibrotic markers, while JNK MAPK blockade reduced CTGF expression without preserving NF-E2 expression.

Melamine exposure from the weaning period causes apoptosis, inflammation, and damage to the blood-brain barrier

Zuleyha Erisgin

Summary: This study demonstrated that exposure to melamine from the weaning period can lead to apoptosis and inflammation in the developing rat brain. The presence of melamine caused a significant increase in cell apoptosis, anti-TNF-α positive neurons, and anti-GFAP positive astrocytes. Additionally, disruptions in the blood-brain barrier significantly increased exposure to 75 mg/kg of melamine.
