Global and regional drivers of land-use emissions in 1961-2017

Chaopeng Hong et al.

Summary: Historically, human uses of land have significantly impacted ecosystems, biodiversity, and the atmosphere through greenhouse gas emissions. Despite global efforts to mitigate emissions, land-use emissions have continued to rise, driven by factors such as population growth, agricultural production, and land-use changes. Regional disparities in emissions intensity and the disproportionate impact of certain products, such as beef, emphasize the need for targeted mitigation strategies. Our findings provide insights into the complex drivers of global land-use emissions, offering valuable information for future conservation and sustainability efforts.

Spatial differentiation identification of influencing factors of agricultural carbon productivity at city level in Taihu lake basin, China

Chuanhe Xiong et al.

Summary: This study identified significant spatial differentiation of agricultural carbon productivity at the city level in the Taihu lake basin, with different echelons based on productivity levels. It also found a synergetic evolution law between agricultural carbon productivity and agricultural economy, highlighting the importance of economic development level in influencing carbon productivity. Additionally, there were notable differences in the influencing factors of agricultural carbon productivity at the city level.

Selecting low-carbon technologies and measures for high agricultural carbon productivity in Taihu Lake Basin, China

Chuanhe Xiong et al.

Summary: The Delphi method was used to evaluate low-carbon technologies for high agricultural carbon productivity in the Taihu Lake Basin. The study identified a final list of technologies and measures tailored to local conditions, providing decision-making reference for formulating agricultural carbon emission reduction technology system and low-carbon agricultural development planning. This final list can also be considered a priority for promoting agricultural low-carbon technologies and measures in China and globally.

The potential benefits of dietary shift in China: Synergies among acceptability, health, and environmental sustainability

Jingjing Yin et al.

Summary: This study assesses China's potential for transitioning to a sustainable diet and the trade-offs among reducing food-related environmental impacts, improving nutritional quality, and respecting eating habits. Results show that carbon footprint, water footprint, and ecological footprint can be reduced significantly while maintaining adequate nutrition and achieving minimal deviation from current food habits. By optimizing scenarios, the study identifies the synergistic benefits of dietary changes in achieving environmental sustainability, health improvement, and dietary acceptability.

Carbon emissions from the global land rush and potential mitigation

Chuan Liao et al.

Summary: Large-scale land transactions can promote agricultural intensification, but may lead to negative environmental and socioeconomic impacts. Research suggests that converting transacted lands to large-scale farms may result in significant carbon emissions, but constraining deforestation rates can reduce these emissions.
