Kinetics and pathway of levofloxacin degradation by ferrate(VI) and reaction mechanism of catalytic degradation by copper sulfide

Qiuye Jin et al.

Summary: The study investigated the effect of pH and oxidant dosage on the removal rate of levofloxacin (LEVO) using potassium ferrate (Fe(VI)) as an oxidant, and studied the degradation kinetics of LEVO. It was found that CuS as a catalyst could significantly improve the Fe(VI)-mediated degradation of LEVO, achieving a removal rate of 96.9% in 30 seconds. The surface characteristics of CuS and the effects of Cu2+ and S2- leached from CuS in Fe(VI)-CuS system were analyzed, confirming that Fe(V)/Fe(IV) play a key role in the degradation process.

A comparison study of levofloxacin degradation by peroxymonosulfate and permanganate: Kinetics, products and effect of quinone group

Yang Zhou et al.

Summary: The study compared the oxidation of a model fluoroquinolone antibiotic levofloxacin (LEV) by permanganate (Mn(VII)) and peroxymonosulfate (PMS), showing that both oxidants can efficiently eliminate the antibiotic activity of LEV with slightly different mechanisms. Additionally, benzo-quinone was found to have an activating effect on both PMS and Mn(VII) oxidation, although their activation mechanisms were distinct.

Effect of inorganic anions on the performance of advanced oxidation processes for degradation of organic contaminants

Jianlong Wang et al.

Summary: Inorganic anions such as chloride, carbonate, phosphate, sulfate, and nitrate have a significant impact on the performance of Advanced Oxidation Processes (AOPs). This influence is not solely attributed to their quenching effect, but also affects reactive species, oxidant stability, catalyst activity, and degradation products. Understanding the comprehensive evaluation of the effect of inorganic anions on AOPs is crucial for optimizing the treatment of organic pollutants.
