Combined system for wastewater treatment: ozonization and coagulation via tannin-based agent for harvesting microalgae by dissolved air flotation

Gislayne Alves Oliveira et al.

Summary: The study evaluated the performance of urban wastewater treatment using an integrated system combining anaerobic reactor, microalgae cultivation, Venturi tube ozone recirculation, coagulation/flocculation with tannin-based agent, and dissolved air flotation (DAF). Results showed that applying ozone and higher tannin dosages can improve treatment efficiency, with the best outcomes achieved using 0.13 mg O-3/mg of biomass and 105 mg/L of tannin. This system proved to be a viable alternative for urban wastewater treatment and microalgae recovery.

Floating treatment wetlands integrated with microbial fuel cell for the treatment of urban wastewaters and bioenergy generation

Gustavo Stolzenberg Colares et al.

Summary: The study found that the combined system utilizing FTW and MFC effectively degraded pollutants in wastewater and generated a certain amount of bioelectricity in the short term. However, the system showed low efficiency in treating total nitrogen and total phosphorus, suggesting further improvement is needed.

Floating treatment wetlands in domestic wastewater treatment as a decentralized sanitation alternative

Gislayne A. Oliveira et al.

Summary: Floating treatment wetlands (FTW) are efficient and easy to install technologies for the treatment of domestic wastewater, offering advantages such as low cost, nutrient removal and reduced maintenance and energy consumption compared to conventional centralized treatment. Further research is needed on the operation, cost assessment and reuse of FTW in decentralized systems.
