Prebiotics can restrict Salmonella populations in poultry: a review

Mohamed E. Abd El-Hack et al.

Summary: Antibiotics have been commonly used in poultry production for many years, but there is a global trend to reduce their use due to concerns about contamination and antibiotic-resistant bacteria. Prebiotics are being considered as attractive supplements in poultry production for their diverse effects and potential to inhibit pathogens, such as Salmonella, in the gastrointestinal tract.

Synergistic effect of Spirulina platensis and selenium nanoparticles on growth performance, serum metabolites, immune responses, and antioxidant capacity of heat-stressed broiler chickens

Abdel-Moneim Eid Abdel-Moneim et al.

Summary: The dietary inclusion of Spirulina platensis and selenium nanoparticles, particularly their combination at levels of 5 g SP plus 0.2 mg SeNPs kg(-1) and 10 g SP plus 0.1 mg SeNPs kg(-1), significantly improved growth performance, carcass yield, immunity, and antioxidant capacity of heat-stressed broilers.

Antioxidant and antimicrobial activities of Spirulina platensis extracts and biogenic selenium nanoparticles against selected pathogenic bacteria and fungi

Abdel-Moneim Eid Abdel-Moneim et al.

Summary: This study investigated the antimicrobial and antioxidant activity of Spirulina extracts and biological selenium nanoparticles. The results showed that Spirulina extracts exhibited antimicrobial and antioxidant activity, with the methanolic extract showing the highest activity. The selenium nanoparticles synthesized by Bacillus subtilis AL43 also showed antimicrobial and antioxidant effects. Spirulina and selenium nanoparticles have potential for safe and reliable medical applications.

Effect of Feeding Wet Feed or Wet Feed Fermented by Bacillus licheniformis on Growth Performance, Histopathology and Growth and Lipid Metabolism Marker Genes in Broiler Chickens

Ahmed A. Saleh et al.

Summary: This study investigated the effects of three feeding methods (dry feed, wet feed or wet feed fermented with Bacillus licheniformis) on the growth efficiency, intestinal histomorphometry, and gene expression in broiler chickens. The findings showed that fermented wet feed improved growth and digestibility, while wet feed had negative effects on performance compared to dry feed. Wet feed reduced hepatic gene expression of PPAR gamma and increased FAS expression. Fermenting wet feed with Bacillus licheniformis positively influenced feed utilization and overall performance of broiler chickens under heat stress.
