Impact of low-molecular-weight poly(4-styrenesulfonic acid-co-maleic acid) sodium salt on filtration and rheological parameters of nanoparticles-enhanced drilling fluid

Mukarram Beg et al.

Summary: The oil and gas industry requires thermally stable drilling fluid, which can be achieved through the addition of novel polymeric additives to improve filtration and rheological properties. The low-molecular-weight polymer PSSM showed effective control in water-based drilling fluids, and the addition of CuO and ZnO nanoparticles further enhanced the fluid's performance at high temperatures. Overall, these additives significantly improved the mud performance and stability, making them suitable for challenging high-temperature wells.

Performance Improvement of the Surfactant Polymer Flooding Using Bio Synthesized Calcium Carbonate Nanoparticles: An Experimental Approach

Himanshu Kesarwani et al.

Summary: This study investigates the application of bio-Ca nanoparticles (NPs) in combination with surfactant polymer (SP) to improve the efficiency of the chemical injection technique. The results show that the addition of NPs reduces the critical micelle concentration (CMC) of surfactant, decreases the surface tension and interfacial tension, modifies the wetting behavior of the oil surface, and improves the viscosity of the SP slug. The introduction of NPs also enhances the cumulative oil recovery and reduces surfactant adsorption.

Vartika Srivastava et al.

Summary: The leaf extract of Ficus retusa plant was effectively used for the green synthesis of alpha-MnO2 nanoparticles, which were applied as an excellent adsorbent for the removal of azo dyes from water bodies. The synthesized NPs exhibited high removal efficiencies, with maximum adsorption capacities of 116.1 mg g(-1) for methyl orange and 74.02 mg g(-1) for methyl red.

Anionic/Nonionic Surfactant Mixture for Enhanced Oil Recovery through the Investigation of Adsorption, Interfacial, Rheological, and Rock Wetting Characteristics

Himanshu Kesarwani et al.

Summary: The present study investigated the effects of a binary surfactant mixture on various aspects of surfactant polymer flooding, including the critical micelle concentration, adsorption behavior, interfacial properties, and wetting characteristics. By comparing initial and final concentrations of the surfactant mixture, it was found that the binary surfactant mixture outperforms individual surfactants and efficiently reduces surfactant adsorption by 63%. Additionally, the binary surfactant mixture achieved an ultralow interfacial tension value of 0.0097 mN/m and was able to recover up to 76% of the total oil in sand pack flooding experiments.

Himanshu Kesarwani et al.

Summary: The study successfully addressed the issue of surfactant adsorption in the conventional surfactant polymer flooding by introducing novel colloidal silica nanoparticles (CSNs). The addition of CSNs not only decreased the adsorption rate of the surfactant, but also improved the performance of the flooding process.

Oil Mobilization Potential of a Novel Anionic Karanj Oil Surfactant: Interfacial, Wetting Characteristic, Adsorption, and Oil Recovery Studies

Himanshu Kesarwani et al.

Summary: A novel biodegradable surfactant was developed from Karanj oil, which showed promising potential in enhancing oil recovery efficiency through thermal stability and reducing interfacial tension. The surfactant effectively altered the wetting behavior of the sand surface and exhibited lower adsorption compared to conventional anionic surfactants. Sand pack flooding tests indicated that using the ASP slug designed with Karanj oil surfactant led to the additional recovery of approximately 32% of crude oil after water flooding.
