Impact of China's new-type urbanization on energy intensity: A city-level analysis

Boqiang Lin et al.

Summary: This paper investigates the impact of the new-type urbanization strategy proposed by the Chinese government on energy intensity in 193 Chinese cities. Results show that the new-type urbanization has a significant energy-saving effect, especially in resource-rich areas. Economic agglomeration, industrial structure, and technological progress are identified as important transmission channels through which the new-type urbanization affects energy intensity.

Energy-related carbon emissions mitigation potential for the construction sector in China

Huimin Hou et al.

Summary: This paper examines the contribution of the construction sector to carbon emissions in China and estimates the sector's potential for emission reduction in 2030 and 2050. Improving electricity efficiency can make a significant contribution in the short term, while material-related initiatives, especially those focused on metal recycling, can lead to substantial carbon mitigation starting from 2030.

Environmental regulation and CO2 emissions: Based on strategic interaction of environmental governance

Lu Zhang et al.

Summary: This study examines the impact of environmental regulations on carbon emissions and the interactive behavior of environmental regulations. It finds that there is diversified competitive behavior among local governments in China in enforcing environmental regulations. The results suggest that environmental regulations mainly affect CO2 emissions through industrial structure and technological progress, and that the central government should strengthen supervision and incentives to promote joint emission reduction.

Empirical analysis of the interplay between shadow economy and pollution: With panel data across the provinces of China

Jingru Pang et al.

Summary: This study reveals a significant positive interaction between shadow economy and environmental pollution, with impacts on environmental regulation, economic growth, foreign direct investment, and educational level. Additionally, pollution and shadow economy have a U-shaped non-linear relationship with environmental regulation, but an inverse U-shaped non-linear relationship with economic growth. Foreign direct investment and education level have positive linear impacts on both pollution and shadow economy.

The regional disparity of per-capita CO2 emissions in China's building sector: An analysis of macroeconomic drivers and policy implications

Huimin Li et al.

Summary: This study examines the regional disparities in CO2 emissions in China's building sector and identifies income, energy intensity, and energy mix as the main drivers of regional emissions inequality. The unequal implementation of energy efficiency policies also plays a significant role in contributing to emissions disparity.

Study on the long-term impact of economic globalization and population aging on CO2 emissions in OECD countries

Xiyue Yang et al.

Summary: This study analyzed the long-term impact of economic globalization and population aging on CO2 emissions using panel data from the OECD. The results show that both factors decrease CO2 emissions in the long term, confirming the effectiveness of the Environmental Kuznets Curve in OECD countries. Additionally, the study found unidirectional causal relationships from economic globalization and population aging to CO2 emissions.

Nonlinear influence of urbanization on China's urban residential building carbon emissions: New evidence from panel threshold model

Tengfei Huo et al.

Summary: Urbanization has a nonlinear impact on urban residential building CO2 emissions, influenced by per capita income and energy structure stages. Promoting environmentally-friendly consumption patterns and increasing the penetration of cleaner energies in urban households can effectively alleviate the growth of residential carbon emissions.

Dynamic global warming impact assessment integrating temporal variables: Application to a residential building in China

Shu Su et al.

Summary: This study evaluated the dynamic life cycle global warming impact of a residential building in China by considering various temporal variables and using dynamic assessment tools. The findings showed significant differences in the effects of different dynamic variables on the global warming impacts of the building. This study provides a dynamic assessment model and dynamic data for the assessment of global warming impacts of buildings in China.
