Foreign Aid, FDI and Economic Growth in South-East Asia and South Asia

D. Tripati Rao et al.

Summary: This study examines the relationship among foreign aid, foreign direct investment (FDI) and economic growth in South-East Asia (SEA) and South Asia (SA) during 1980-2016. The findings suggest that foreign aid is negatively associated with FDI and growth, while FDI has a positive influence on growth. Additionally, governmental financial assistance to the private sector is important in attracting FDI flows and promoting economic growth. Therefore, low-income SEA and SA economies should focus on channelizing governmental financial assistance to private sector for domestic investment, macroeconomic stabilization, trade openness, and efficient utilization of aid flows in order to sustain higher economic growth.

Do CO2 emissions, energy consumption and globalization promote economic growth? Empirical evidence from Japan

Tomiwa Sunday Adebayo

Summary: This paper explores the effects of CO2 emissions, globalization energy usage, trade openness, and urbanization on economic growth in Japan using new econometric techniques. The study finds that urbanization, CO2 emissions, globalization, and energy usage have a positive impact on economic growth, while no significant link is found between trade openness and economic growth. The wavelet coherence approach reveals positive co-movements between economic growth and the regressors, as well as a one-way causality from CO2 emissions and energy usage to economic growth.
