Newly discovered bis-(2-ethylhexyl)-phenyl phosphate (BEHPP) was a ubiquitous contaminant in surface soils from a typical region, South China

Shuai Gong et al.

Summary: This study investigated the presence of BEHPP in surface soil samples from a prefecture-level city in South China, finding a high detection frequency and strong correlations between BEHPP and other OPE congeners. Commercial, industrial, and residential areas showed significantly greater BEHPP concentrations compared to agricultural and scenic areas.

Organophosphate Esters and Their Metabolites in Breast Milk from the United States: Breastfeeding Is an Important Exposure Pathway for Infants

Guomao Zheng et al.

Summary: Organophosphate esters (OPEs) are synthetic chemicals found in high concentrations in the indoor environment, and their metabolites were detected in breast milk from U.S. mothers. The study found that diester OPE concentrations were twice as high as triester OPE concentrations, and breastfeeding is a significant source of OPE exposure for infants. The most abundant OPE in breast milk was tris(1-chloro-2-propyl) phosphate, while the metabolite di-n-butyl phosphate (DNBP) was the most abundant OPE metabolite detected in the samples.

Identification of Three Novel Chloroalkyl Organophosphate Triesters in House Dust Using Halogenation-Guided Nontarget Screening Combined with Suspect Screening

Lei Wang et al.

Summary: This study identified a rare chloroalkyl OPTE, DEGBBCPP, as well as DEGBBCEP and EBBCEP in house dust samples. DEGBBCPP had a relatively high detection rate and concentration, indicating a need for further research on its potential health effects.

Aerobic degradation of nonhalogenated organophosphate flame esters (OPEs) by enriched cultures from sludge: Kinetics, pathways, bacterial community evolution, and toxicity evaluation

Rui Hou et al.

Summary: This study aimed to monitor the biodegradation of nonhalogenated organophosphate esters in wastewater treatment plants and clarify the microbial-mediated mechanisms. The presence of glucose significantly enhanced the degradation of OPEs, and the removal ratios for the three OPEs reached 29.3-89.9% after 5 cycles of cultivation.

Establishment of a Target, Suspect, and Functional Group-Dependent Screening Strategy for Organophosphate Esters (OPEs): Into the Unknown of OPEs in the Sediment of Taihu Lake, China

Langjie Ye et al.

Summary: This study developed an effective strategy for comprehensive screening of OPEs in environmental samples and successfully applied it to sediment samples from Taihu Lake. The study identified new OPEs, observed trends in OPE concentrations with distance from the lake coast, and found significant correlations between certain OPEs.

Spatial pattern analysis reveals multiple sources of organophosphorus flame retardants in coastal waters

Xiaozhong Gao et al.

Summary: This study reveals significant pollution of PFRs in the coasts of GBA, with multiple sources such as human settlement, wastewater, manufacture, construction industry, vehicles, and shipping transport correlated to the pollutions. Spatial pattern analysis based on statistical analysis proves to be a promising method for identifying pollution sources in large-scale areas.

First insight on in vitro metabolism of three newly identified aryl organophosphate esters via a suspect coupled with nontarget screening approach

Jianhua Li et al.

Summary: This study developed a novel suspect coupled with nontarget screening approach and successfully screened metabolites of three newly identified organophosphate esters. The results showed that these compounds were effectively metabolized by HLMs, with zero-order kinetics. Additionally, a considerable number of dearylated phosphate and hydroxylated metabolites were identified.
