ENSO and Southeast Asian biomass burning modulate subtropical trans-Pacific ozone transport

Lian Xue et al.

Summary: This study reveals the dominant influence of El Nino-Southern Oscillation (ENSO)-modulated fires in Southeast Asia on the interannual variability of trans-Pacific transport of ozone. The study also highlights the unexpectedly strong impact of vegetation fires, linked with climate variability, on global tropospheric chemistry.

Isotopic composition of total gaseous mercury at a high-altitude tropical forest site influenced by air masses from the East Asia continent and the Pacific Ocean

Ly Sy Phu Nguyen et al.

Summary: This study measured the concentrations and isotopic compositions of different forms of mercury at a mountain background station downwind of the East Asia continent. Results showed that the main source regions of mercury were in East and coastal China, and different forms of mercury exhibited variations in both seasonal patterns and air mass sources. The isotopic compositions of atmospheric mercury displayed clear differences between continental and marine air masses.

Long- and short-term time series forecasting of air quality by a multi-scale framework

Shan Jiang et al.

Summary: Forecasting air quality in Hong Kong is challenging, but a recently developed hybrid method and multi-scale framework show promising results in improving short-term and long-term forecasting accuracy. This approach has potential applications in other cities for time series forecasting of air pollutants.
