Recycled utilization of Iris pseudacorus in constructed wetlands: Litters self-consumption and nitrogen removal improvement

Xushun Gu et al.

Summary: The study suggests that utilizing Iris pseudacorus litters as a carbon source can enhance denitrification in wastewater treatment, leading to high nitrogen removal efficiency in constructed wetlands. Long-term operation of lab-scale constructed wetlands demonstrated the effective utilization of plant biomass for nitrogen removal.

Cyclic utilization of reed litters to enhance nitrogen removal efficiency in simulated estuarine wetland

Yanan Wang et al.

Summary: Reed is a common species in China's estuarine wetlands, containing high carbon and low nitrogen, and its litter has the potential to enhance denitrification efficiency. Experimental findings show that reed litter released more total organic carbon (TOC) under 7‰ salinity compared to 0‰ salinity, with leaf litter releasing more TOC than stem litter. Addition of mixed litter increased NO3--N removal rates by about 20% under 7‰ salinity and 25% under 0‰ salinity.

Response mechanism of different electron donors for treating secondary effluent in ecological floating bed

Shanshan Sun et al.

Summary: In this study, three different electron donors were used to improve nitrogen removal in ecological floating beds. Results showed that different electron donors had varying effects on TN removal efficiency, with EFB-Fe showing the best performance. The distribution of different bacteria types on different electron donors was also observed.
