Electrokinetic Delivery of Reactants: Pore Water Chemistry Controls Transport, Mixing, and Degradation

Riccardo Sprocati et al.

Summary: The concentration difference between background electrolyte and injected solute plays a key role in controlling the transport of charged tracers and reactants, leading to nonintuitive concentration distribution patterns and influencing mixing and degradation kinetics in electrokinetic transport in porous media.

Removal of inorganic contaminants in soil by electrokinetic remediation technologies: A review

Dongdong Wen et al.

Summary: Soil contaminated by inorganic pollutants poses risks to human health and the environment, with electrokinetic remediation (EKR) technology being widely used for cleaning contaminated sites. Efforts to establish optimal operating conditions and understand the mechanisms of EKR have not yet resulted in a comprehensive theoretical foundation.

Remediation of heavy metal-contaminated soils by electrokinetic technology: Mechanisms and applicability

Yuchen Wang et al.

Summary: Electrokinetic remediation is an effective technology for increasing the efficiency of heavy metal removal from contaminated soil. Various working components, such as supplying power for electric fields, installing electrodes, introducing electrolytes, play crucial roles in the electrokinetic system. A judicious design and reasonable operation are needed to enhance the effectiveness of heavy metal removal in electrokinetic-coupled remediation.

Enhanced electrokinetic remediation of heavy metals contaminated soil by biodegradable complexing agents

Yuchen Wang et al.

Summary: This study demonstrated the suitability of biodegradable complexing agents for treating soil contaminated with heavy metals using electrokinetic remediation. Sodium alginate (SA) significantly improved the removal efficiency of Cu2+ and Zn2+, while chitosan (CTS) could complex metal ions and form crosslinked CTS gelations, migrating to the catholyte under the electric field.
